October is one of my favorite months! I love everything fall. Pumpkins, lattes, football, cool weather, sweaters, literally everything. Here are some of my favorite activities I use in the classroom.
Nickel Puzzle:
This is great practice for kids who need help counting by 5’s or coin identification. These puzzles also come in two different difficulty levels. Some of the puzzles are cut at angles to help the kids who need a little extra support. Other puzzles are cut in a straight line for kids that need a bit of a challenge. Bat Addition Puzzle:
I love using these bat addition cards in sensory tubs during math centers. Students must sort through googily eyes, shredded orange paper, purple and black pom-poms, and glittery styrofoam balls. Students match two bat wing addition problems to the answer on the bat’s body. I love using this activity in my math centers especially when we are researching bats during science. Coin Puzzle
Coin identification can be a struggle when first introducing it to your classroom. Students will need to match the image of the coin with the amount and to the name of the coin. I enjoy using this puzzle in my small group. I am able to oversee any misidentification or confusion kids might have. It can also be a great assessment tool. For higher learners, have the students complete it independently and checked by a partner. Click the image on the left for more information.
Make 10, 12, or 20!
Students will use their addition skills to add 2 or 3 numbers together to make either 10, 12, or 20. The last person to create an equation wins! My kids love this partner activity. It is also a great tool to use in a small group to monitor their fast fact skills. Click the image on the left for more information.
I hope you and your students enjoy these fun activities! Here is a preview of my November Centers!
