Hello!
March has arrived which means it is time to pack up your pink and red hearts and it is time to pull out the green shamrocks and pots of gold.
March is crucial because it the time of the year when new concepts are being introduce but review is necessary so that kids can retain what was taught back in October. We practice addition and subtraction all year long but during this time we also are focusing on time, measurement, and double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping.
Here is how I set up my math centers:
There are five groups with about 4-5 kids in each group. My students will complete two math centers after our whole group lesson. We have a tub 1, tub 2, and tub 3 activity which is both review and new content activities. The other rotations are technology, hands on (cut and paste), and fact practice. To start March off my students will work on lady bug fact families, subtraction strips, and review place value. As I introduce time, I will incorporate those activities into our math centers.
Daily Math Practice
This “Number of the Day” activity is a great tool to use everyday as a morning or math warm up. We track how many days we have been in school and practice math facts that align with the number.
Now, time for the fun stuff. Here is the FREEBIE for this month!
Here are motivational book marks you can print off for your students. You can use them in the classroom or challenge your students to write a kind note on the back and leave it in their favorite book in your school’s library.
