This year we added a couple new team members to our first grade team. New team members means new ideas for the year. One of the new teachers brought the idea Scientist of the Week and it has been a hit in first grade.
Here’s how it works:
- I created a sign up genius for parents to sign their kid up for a day to give their science presentation. I did mine on Thursdays.
- The Friday before their experiment, I send home the lab report for the kids to fill out and start practicing their experiment. You can find it here for FREE https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Scientist-of-the-Week-Forms-and-Ideas-143818
- On Thursday the student comes with a completed lab report and all the materials they need for the experiment.
- Thursday afternoon, the student puts on our class’s lab coat and presents their science project.
The kids have loved presenting in front of the class. This is an activity that I love so much that I will be continuing to do this in future years. 🙂
